Get Your AC Ready Before Summer in Florida

A spring checklist for your AC: replace the filter, rinse the condenser, flush the drain line, and test the system before you need it every day.

Pre-summer AC maintenance service in Belleair, Florida

In Pinellas County, the AC transition from "runs sometimes" to "runs all day" happens fast — usually late March or early April. The system that was coasting through winter is suddenly running 12 to 16 hours a day. If anything is marginal — a dirty coil, a weak capacitor, a partially clogged drain line — it will fail under the summer load.

A 30-minute spring checkup prevents most mid-summer breakdowns.

The homeowner checklist

Replace the air filter. Even if you changed it recently, start the season with a fresh one. The system is about to run harder and longer than it has in months.

Rinse the outdoor condenser coil. Turn the system off at the disconnect. Rinse from the inside out with a garden hose. Clear any debris, leaves, or vegetation within two feet of the unit. This is the most impactful thing you can do yourself.

Flush the condensate drain line. Pour a cup of vinegar down the cleanout tee. This clears any algae that grew during the off season before it becomes a clog under heavy use.

Set your thermostat. If you have a programmable or smart thermostat, update the schedule for summer. A setback schedule that raises the temperature when no one is home reduces run time and saves energy.

Test the system. Set the thermostat to "cool" at 72 and let it run for 30 minutes. Check that cold air comes from all vents, the outdoor unit is running, and there are no unusual noises or smells. Better to find a problem in March when schedules are open than in July when every technician in the county is booked.

The professional checkup

A maintenance visit adds what you cannot check yourself: refrigerant pressures, electrical connections, capacitor health, static pressure measurement, coil condition behind the panels, and blower motor amperage. These measurements catch components that are still working but close to failure.

CLUSTER C — Myth Corrections

These say what the industry usually will not. They are the trust-building differentiator. Each post: ~400-500 words. Structure: the common belief, why it is wrong, what actually happens, what to do instead.
